Learn How to Love Cleaning

Welcome to the first blog post of the Simple Southern Sisters.  Cleaning is a thing that we all have do, even if we really don’t want to.  I know that there are many days where I wake up to a pile of laundry needing washed, dishes left in the sink, and the reality that I haven’t cleaned the bathroom mirror in so long that it has become blurry.  Let’s face it we all lack motivation to clean at some point, and even if we are full of energy we would much rather be doing something else.  That is where learning how to love cleaning becomes important for us. While we all love Rachel Green, at some point we have to give ourselves tough love and become Monica Geller!  Here are 5 ways that I have learned to love cleaning!

  • Nothing motivates me more to get up and clean like the excitement of new cleaning products!  Dishes are a lot more exciting when I know that the soap I will be using is a new scent!  Try buying a new scent or product that you have never used before.
  • Plan an event at your home!  When I know that I have a fun reason to clean my house I love the process so much more.  Invite some friends over and host a game night, or even cook for your significant other a special meal and dress up.  Knowing that you have a good reason to scrub the house will make you love and appreciate your hard work!
  • Where are all of my check list people?  Who doesn’t love the satisfaction of making a list and checking things off as you go.  I know that when my home is extremely overwhelming and messy it helps me to write down everything I need to do.  I am very detailed and write down each rooms items, if you are not into details make a list that works for you.  This may sound weird, but having a list really helps me love cleaning and knowing how proud and satisfied I will feel.
  • Set small goals that you can manage. Instead of telling yourself that you are going to clean the entire house top to bottom in one day try setting goals that you can realistically manage.  If you are a parent with kids that works you are likely to have a busy schedule.  Try setting aside 10 minutes an hour to tackle one or two tasks.  This way you don’t become overwhelmed, but can take pride in still achieving your goals.
  • Tell yourself you love cleaning! Yes, you may hate cleaning with everything in you, but if you tell yourself that you love cleaning you may actually begin to love cleaning.  Trust me when I say that I hate vegetables! As a person that loves food, veggies are the worst!  I told myself that I loved vegetables as I would eat them in meals, and it genuinely helps. While I still don’t like all veggies, I have found some that I really enjoy now after telling myself I love them. While you may not fully love all aspects of cleaning, you may be surprised to find that you learned to love some of the tasks!

Thank you all so much for reading my first blog post! I am excited to start this journey with you all.  Please comment below any ideas you have for learning how to love cleaning, or if any of these ideas helped you!
